Lore & Background

Four hundred years before the series, ninja and Youkai fought a great war. The legendary Sarutobi Sasuke and four other ninjas sealed the Youkai Commander Nurarihyon and all his Youkai's energies in a cave protected by a Seal Door. In the present, the Youkai Kappa tricks descendants Sasuke and Saizou into opening the Seal Door, releasing the Youkai. These two, joined by three other descendants of great ninjas, become the Kakurangers to fight the reinvigorated Youkai with the aid of the Three God Generals. The Youkai are slowly united under one banner.

The five Kakurangers are named after legendary ninja and masters of the Kakure Style ninjutsu. Outside battle, they run a mobile crepe shop with the sentient Nekomaru food truck. They transform using Kakure Medal coins and Doron Changer devices, and wield various weapons including the Kakuremaru ninjatō, Kaku Laser handgun, and Shinobi Knuckle grappling device. Their motorcycles combine into the Shark Driver to destroy human-sized Youkai.

Each member has a distinct personality and background: Sasuke (Ninja Red) is a 26-year-old descendant of Sarutobi Sasuke, a dirty-minded but good-hearted hothead. Tsuruhime (Ninja White) is the 15-16-year-old team leader and 24th protector of the Seal Door. Saizou (Ninja Blue) is a 22-year-old descendant of Kirigakure Saizō, easily flattered and unlucky. Seikai (Ninja Yellow) is a 24-year-old descendant of Miyoshi Seikai, driven by desire for food, sleep, video games, and women. Jiraiya (Ninja Black) is a 20-year-old Japanese-American ninja from Los Angeles who frequently speaks English.

The Team & Their Arsenal

Each Kakuranger takes their name from a legendary master of the Kakure Style of ninjutsu, grounding the team in a rich martial tradition. Outside of combat, the group operates a mobile crepe shop from a sentient food truck called Nekomaru, a detail that gives the heroes a distinctly everyday, community-oriented identity. Transformation is triggered by Kakure Medal coins inserted into inro-shaped Doron Changer devices. In battle, every member wields a Kakuremaru ninjatō capable of delivering the Lightning Wave finisher, a Kaku Laser handgun that can be reconfigured into a Laser Knife dagger, and a Shinobi Knuckle that doubles as a grappling tool. Their signature team attack, the Kakure Shoot, is executed via the Kakuranger Ball. For larger threats, the five Shark Machine motorcycles combine into the Shark Driver, a vehicle designed to take down human-sized Youkai.
